Play-Up Policy Update – Unity Sunday Weekly

Dear players and parents,

Our sections remain as follows:
Open(1800+)
Reserve (1400–1799)
Booster (U1400)

As a general rule, play up is not allowed.

However, to support the growth and motivation of our players, especially juniors, we are introducing the following exception:

If a player has reached a higher section rating threshold at least once (1800 or 1400), they will be permanently eligible to play in that higher section, even if their rating later drops below the cutoff.

This update is designed to encourage ambition, reward progress, and help players continue challenging themselves at a higher level.

We believe this will contribute positively to player development and to the continued growth of chess in Arizona.

Thank you for your support.

Regards,

Unity Chess Club
